This month we chat with Orange County Interior Designer, Meghan Yang. Meghan always finds a way to inspire us with her clean yet edgy beach-house designs, especially when it comes to her hard surface selections.
Without further ado, let's dive into the interview!
What inspires you and your design work?
The first step for me is trying to figure out what inspires my client and how to reflect their personality in the project. I'm personally inspired by fashion, art and nature.
where do you draw inspiration for new projects you're working on?
I look for that "it" element. That piece you have to have. It could be an amazing fabric or light fixture, but generally for me it's a tile. Once I find that the rest of the design seems to form organically around it.
What's your ultimate dream design project?
If you would have asked me a year ago I would say the project's I'm currently working on, but I've always wanted to design a boutique hotel!
What's your number one tip for creating a beautiful environment?
Balance. Balance in color and scale, but even more importantly a balance in style. If it's a contemporary aesthetic I like to add a few traditional or natural elements to warm it up, or the opposite for a more traditional space. Mixing styles creates a more unique and inviting space.
